Ethiopia, China Hold Talks on Strengthening Economic Ties

ADDIS ABABA –  Ethiopia and China have held a high-level consultative meeting aiming at strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries, the ministry of Finance said on Monday.

Today’s meeting took place between Finance Minister Ahmed Shide and Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Zhao Zhiyuan, in Addis Ababa, the ministry said in a statement.



During the meeting, finance minister Ahmed expressed his appreciation to the Chinese government for its overall economic support to Ethiopia. Ahmed said China has been working in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance in various fields of economic development.

This has made significant contributions to Ethiopia’s economic reform program particularly in the fields of infrastructure and human resource development as well as the country’s industrialization agenda, the minister said.

The economic cooperation between the two is still getting stronger and stronger from time to time, he said.

According to the ministry, Ethiopia draws lessons from China’s economic development model as it focuses on realizing its home-grown economic reform program and building a strong economy.

The Chinese Ambassador, on his part, said his country is committed to helping Ethiopia boost its Ethiopia’s economic prospects.

He elaborated on the importance of accelerating the implementation of the ongoing and new economic and capacity-building projects to enable Ethiopia achieve economic prosperity.

Yang Yihang, the new Minister Counselor of the Economic and Commercial Counselor office of the Chinese Embassy, attended the consultative meeting.
