Seven People Die in Debre Markos Bus Crash

At least seven people have died and 22 others have been injured in a bus crash in Debre Markos city of Amhara region on Saturday.

The city administration’s traffic police department says the deadly crash happened on the road linking Debre Markos to Senan District.

The public bus carrying passengers was on the way to the city when it overturned at Rebu market, killing seven people, commander Bimrew Asefa told state-run news agency ENA.

At least 22 other people have been taken to Debre Markos referral hospital for treatment, commander Bimrew said.

Commander Bimrew said police are investigating the crash but urged drivers to comply with regular car technical inspection and drive within legal speed limit.

Another Fatal Single-car crash in Harari

A car crash in Harari region involving Sino truck also left a member of the regional police commission dead on Friday night.

The Harari Police commission says the accident occurred on Friday night in the Sofi district after the truck crashed into the customs checkpoint, killing one.

Sgt Shimeles Belew who was among the policemen on duty was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Commission’s report today. Others survived the crash unscathed.

Investigation into the accident is ongoing, said the police that caught the driver who initially escaped, leaving the truck behind in Sofi district.

Fortnights ago, district experienced a deadly car crash that left six wedding-goers dead and eight others injured. The victims were between 20 and 23 years of age and were returning from a wedding ceremony.
