Ethiopia Reports 1038 New COVID-19 Infections, 13 Deaths
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia reported 1038 new coronavirus cases on Friday as authorities launch a wear mask challenge in a bid to stop the pandemic.
Ministry of Health reported today that the country tested over 17, 323 people for Coronavirus in the past twenty-four hours, and registered a record daily increase so far.
Health officials also added 13 more deaths related to COVID-19, a respiratory illness caused by the deadly coronavirus.
The country currently has 18, 088 active cases. Of these, 195 are in severe condition, according to the ministry of health.
Health officials also said, during the reported period, at least 232 patients have recovered from the virus, taking the total number of recoveries so far to 11, 660.
Since mid-March, over 27, 242 people have been infected in the East African nations, 492 of whom have died. The country tested a total of 567, 442.
Authorities continue to introduce various efforts to tackle coronavirus epidemic, which has seen a resurgence in the country recently.
On Friday, Ethiopian President Office announced the official launch of MaskEthiopia Campaign joining the World Health Organization or WHO’s WearAMask Challenge in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19.
President Sahlework Zewde advised Ethiopians to “take part in this campaign by promoting as well work to put a stop to this pandemic”.
“Wearing mask saves,” she added.
Health officials also say Masks can help keep us safe from COVID19, along with physical distancing, hand washing, avoiding crowds and covering your mouth & nose when coughing.
