Sheger, Entoto Parks Near Completion: PM Office

ADDIS ABEBA – Sheger and Entoto Parks, initiated by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed last year, is almost complete, his office said on Friday.

Prime Minister Abiy hosted the ‘Dine for Sheger’ initiative to mobilize funds for the two projects aimed at better positioning Addis Ababa as an urban tourism site in July 2019.

In a year period since the activity began, both Sheger and Entoto parks which have created many jobs are nearing completion, Prime Minister Office said in a statement.

“My deepest gratitude to the daring few who contributed their money, those who gave their time and energy,” Prime Minister Abiy said speaking about the projects.

“It takes a daring few to reach a tipping point in achieving a desired positive result. The brave few that take a leap of faith without a guarantee of the outcome,” he added.

According to the prime minister office, the parks have significance in terms of facilitating service economies and changing the look and feel of the city of Addis Ababa.

The initiatives have demonstrated innovation, purposeful planning and execution in a short time frame, and most importantly are symbolic representations of Ethiopia, Abiy’s Office said.

Lessons learned from the projects for the next phase of initiating similar projects in other parts of the country so as to unpack Ethiopia’s existing assets, the Office added.
