AAU Graduates 270 Medicine Students

ADDIS ABABA – Addis Ababa University (AAU) College of Health Sciences celebrated the graduation of more than 270 medicine students.

The graduating class of the College’s medical school consists of 113 female and 158 male medicine students.

The entire class graduated on Saturday after passing the national exit exam given by the Ministry of Health.

This 100% success rate made us proud of our students, Prof Andualem Deneke, executive director of AAU’s College of Health Science, stated.

The physicians took the Hippocratic Oath in front of the Statue of Hippocrates in the Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital earlier this week.

On Saturday, they received their degrees from the guest of honor Dr. Dereje Duguma, State Minister of Health, at the commencement ceremony held in the Sidist Kilo Business Campus.

It was the Medical School’s 52nd commencement.

The graduating class includes 240 medical doctors and 9 dentists, as well as 22 anesthesiologists (BSc).

Gold Medalist

Per AAU, 189 students complete their studies in medicine with the highest Latin honors of summa cum laude, magna laude, and com laude.

At the graduation ceremony, the University recognized two high-achieving the graduating class.

Michael Zenebe Nigussie took the gold medal after completing the medical doctorate program with the highest 3.93 Grade Point Average (GPA).

The AAU also gave an award to Dr. Rediet Getu Kebede who finished the program with a 3.87 GPA – the highest point scored by female med students in the graduating class.

The ceremony also witnessed twin brothers – Dr. Brook Fantahun and Dr. Cherinet Fantahun – graduate with the highest distinction.

Including today’s graduates, more than 280, 000 students graduated from Addis Ababa University in its 74-year-long history.
