Ministry of Revenues Collects 171.3bln Birr in Six-Month, Misses Targets

ADDIS ABABA – Ministry of Revenues has collected 171.3 billion birr from tax and non-tax revenues in the first half of the 2021/22 Ethiopian fiscal year, its official said on Saturday.

The figure is about 14.4 billion birr short of the Ministry’s target, set at 185.7 billion birr.

It is, however, 22.2 billion birr or 14.9% higher than the amount obtained in the same time last year.

“During the last six months, we have managed to collect 171.7 billion birr and attained 92.2% of our plan,” said Lake Ayalew, Revenues Minister.

The minister is content with the performance and said it was an achievement made amid multiple challenges for Ethiopia.

Lake announced the six month performance of the Ministry in an event held at Friendship Park to recognize its 223 staff and 34 institutions for their major contributions in the previous budget year’s “ strong” performance.

Last FY, the ministry garnered 279.4 billion birr of the planned 290 billion birr despite the impact of Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Northern Ethiopia.

This year, the government plans to get 360 billion birr from tax and non-tax revenues.
