PM Abiy, President Biden Hold ‘Candid’ Phone Conversation

ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and United States President Joe Biden have spoken by phone today about the current situation in Ethiopia and other issues.

The discussion, held on Monday afternoon, was focused on the current situation in Ethiopia and strengthening the Ethiopia-US relationship, according to Prime Minister Abiy.

In a tweet, the prime minister of Ethiopia described his phone conversation with the US president as “candid”.

“I held a candid phone conversation with @POTUS on current issues in Ethiopia, bilateral relations as well as regional matters,” Abiy wrote on twitter.

“We both agree there is great value in strengthening our cooperation through constructive engagement founded on mutual respect,” the prime minister said.

In a statement, the Prime Minister office said Abiy has briefed Biden on several updates on the current situations in northern Ethiopia.

The PM shared with Biden the status of Ethiopia’s rule of law operations in Northern parts of the country as well as the efforts being made by the Government to address issues in relation to humanitarian assistance, human rights and rebuilding efforts in recently liberated areas, the statement reads.

Both leaders affirmed the commitment to strengthen bilateral relations and to work
collaboratively on matters of mutual concern, the statement concludes.
