Abiy Hails This Year’s Crop Production in Somali Region as “Very Promising”

ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has described this year’s crop production in the Somali region as “very promising”.

The prime minister commended the crop production in Eastern region of Ethiopia in a message posted on his twitter page captioning photos of the farms he visited on Friday morning.

“This season’s crop production in the Somali region is very promising,” writes PM Abiy.

The PM made a similar visit in Oromia region including wheat farms in Arsi Zone together with senior government officials and former prime minister Hailemariam Desalegn.

“Our focus throughout the country will continue to be on food security and on strengthening our capacity for self reliance,” Abiy added.

More than 12.2 million hectares of land has been covered with various crops during the kiremet, the main rainy season in Ethiopia, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.

The Ministry expects for over 374 million quintals of produce to be harvested from these cultivated land.
