Ethiopia Reports 1, 851 New COVID-19 Infections, Tally Exceeds 225, 000

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has reported 1, 851 new Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases on Friday, bringing the nationwide tally to more than 225, 000.

Health officials confirmed the latest positive cases coronavirus after testing nearly 7, 500 people over the past twenty-four hours.



In a Covid-19 report Friday evening, the Ministry of Health confirmed the death of at least 33 patients due to COVID-related complications.

That has brought the national death toll to 3, 111, shows the report.

The rate of hospitalizations has remained relatively similar as compared to the preceding day.

About 895 Covid-19 patients are receiving medical treatment in intensive care units nationwide.

They are among the 54, 458 confirmed active cases in the country, according to the report.

The same report also reveals at least 1, 193 patients have recovered from the deadly respiratory illness, pushing the recovery tally 167, 945.

Ethiopia, Africa’s second-most populous nation, has confirmed its first case in March, 2020.

Since then, the country has reported a total of 225, 516 infections after conducting more than 2.43mln tests. Both the COVID-19 case and test tallies are the heights recorded in the East African region.
