Ethiopia Reports 2, 121 New COVID-19 Cases, 20 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered a total of 2, 121 new Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases on Thursday, bringing the nationwide tally to 223, 665.

Health officials in the East African country identified the new positive cases after testing about 7, 757 people in the past twenty-four hours.



In a Covid-19 report for the day, th3 Ministry of Health also said 20 people have passed away due to COVID-related complications, bringing the national death toll to 3, 078.

Meanwhile, the rate of hospitalizations has gone below 900 mark.

There are 892 Covid-19 patients currently receiving medical treatment in intensive care units nationwide, according to the report.

They are among the 53, 833 confirmed active cases in the country, the report reveals.

During the 24-hours period, health officials said at least 617 patientshave recovered after contracting the virus, which causes the deadly respiratory illness.

To date, a total of 166, 752 people have recuperated from the disease.

Ethiopia, Africa’s second-most populous nation, has so far reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the East African region after testing more than 2.42mln people.
