Ethiopia Records 547 New COVID-19 Cases
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 547 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, taking the nationwide tally to 139,408, the Ministry of Health said.
A further six people died due to COVID-19 related complication on the day the death toll reached 2,122.
The ministry has also said at least 182 people recovered from the deadly respiratory illness caused by coronavirus. To date, upto 123,988 people have recovered after contracting the virus.
Ethiopia, Africa’s second most populous nation, is one of the countries hardest hit by COVID-19 in Africa, after South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt.
The East African nation has so far conducted over 1.98mln COVID-19 tests, according to the ministry. The total number of tests the country conducted is also the third highest in Africa, next to South Africa and Morocco, according to figures from Africa CDC.
