Ministry of Education Announces University Entrance Points
ADDIS ABABA – The Ministry of Education announced the 2021/22 Ethiopian academic year university entrance points on Monday.
Nearly 600, 000 grade 12 students of the 2020/21 batch sat for the national exam in two phases held in November 2021, and January 2022.
Three weeks after the exam results are released them online, the Ministry of Education announced the minimum points required for students to join universities.
The Ministry said about 48% of the students scored more than 50 and above 100.
It also said a total of 152,014 students will join government universities. About 42% of these students, or 63,833, are female students, the ministry said.
In a press briefing today, the State Minister of Education revealed that the university entrance points for students who sat in the first and second exam rounds are different.
FIRST Round
In this roundabout, a total of 545, 381 grade 12 students sat for the national exam otherwise known as Ethiopian Higher Education Entrance Certificate Examination.
The entrance points for regular natural science students are 363 for male and 351 for female students.
The cut points for regular students from emerging regional states and pastoralist areas are 351 for male and 339 for female.
The entrance point for regular students with hearing impairment is 300 points and above.
Students need to get 300 and above to register in private higher institutions.
The Ministry also put 330 points as a minimum for students to join private educational institutions.
– Social Sciences –
The cut points for regular students of Social Sciences to join government universities are 264 for male and 254 for female.
Female students in emerging regional states and pastoralist areas need to score 250 and above to join government universities, while male students are required to get 254 and above.
The minimum entrance points for students with hearing and visual impairment are 250 and 200, respectively.
All students with visual impairment need to score 200 and above to join public universities.
Regular students who scored 250 and above can join private higher institutions.
SECOND ROUND
Authorities said more than 58, 000 students from Afar, Afar, Benishangul-Gumuz, and Oromia regions sat for the exam in the second phase of the National exam.
The university entrance points for regular students of natural science are male students 423 (for male) and 409 (for female).
The minimum points for students in emerging regional states and pastoralist areas are 396 for female and 410 for male students.
Students with hearing impairment need to score 350 points to join either private or public universities.
Authorities also put 350 as minimum entrance points to join private higher institutions.
– Social Science –
Regular female and male students who sat for the exam in the second round are required to score 305 and 317 points, respectively, to join government universities.
Female students in emerging regional states and pastoralist areas are expected to score 300 and above, while male students need to score 305 and above to join government universities.
Students with visual impairment are required to score a minimum of 250 points to join government universities, while students with hearing impairment need to get 300 points to enter universities.
Authorities also put 300 points as entrance minimum points to join private higher institutions.
