Over 867,000 Students to Take Grade-12 National Exam

ADDIS ABABA – More than 868, 000 students are set to sit for the Grade 12 national exam of the 2022/23 Ethiopian academic year.

The social sciences students will get the high school leaving exam underway on Wednesday.

Ahead of that, Education Minister Birhanu Nega met with the Grade-12 students stationed at Addis Ababa University’s Arat Kilo Science Faculty campus.

The minister encouraged the students to remain calm and do the exams.

Public universities began serving as exam centers last year in a bid to reign in cheating by implementing the exam rules and regulations strictly.

Tomorrow, orientation will be given to the students who will sit for social sciences exams on Wednesday-Friday. They will then travel back to their home over the weekend.

Natural sciences to follow

In the second round, the natural sciences exam will be administered in a similar manner with the students expected to take the exams for four days, starting August 1, 2023.

The total examinee involves 667,483 students from the regular education program and  200,691 from the night and distance education programs.

All the students have been advised to respect the rules and regulations of the exams by the national educational assessment authority. Last year, more than 17,000 examinees saw their results completely annulled for violating the rules.
