India, Italy Keen to Deepen Ties with Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA- Foreign Affairs Ministers of India and Italy expressed their countries desires to deepen ties with Ethiopia in their respective congratulatory message sent to Demeke Mekonnen upon his appointment as deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs minister of the East African nation.

According to the spokesperson office Ethiopian foreign ministry, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the Indian Foreign Minister, said his country Ken to transform its relationship with Ethiopia in multifaceted areas of cooperation. He said the two nations are in a better position to leverage their immense potential for mutual benefits of their peoples.

Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, on his part, underlined that the two countries need to join hands to further their historical relationship. He underscored that Italy appreciates the measures Ethiopia is taking to address its internal circumstances in the light of its significant position to safeguard peace and security in the region.

On the same day, President of Switzerland, Guy Parmelin, has sent congratulatory message to Abiy Ahmed for his election to serve as Prime Minister of Ethiopia for new five-year term, reports FBC.

President Parmelin pledged to foster collaboration with the Government of Ethiopia in elevating the existing bilateral ties between the two nations and working closely on major regional issues together.

Ethiopia and Switzerland signed a Memorandum of Understanding to intensify the bilateral dialogue, which is now taking place every year.
