Ethiopia’s First Private Data Centre & Cloud Substrates Goes Live

ADDIS ABABA – A Modular Data Center and Cloud Substrates built by Redfox Solutions Group in Addis Ababa’s ICT Park has gone live, bringing state-of-the-art infrastructure to the ICT hub.

The private firm – founded by Ethiopian-Diaspora IT Professionals – held the operational launch of the data center and its headquarters on Monday.

The launching event was attended by Industrial Park Development Corporation CEO Sandokan Debebe and Redfox Solutions General Manager Adane Kasaye.

The construction of the data center known as Redfox Modular Data Center 1 (RFETH-MDC01) & HQ took $130 million in investment and fifteen months to complete.

Its officials expect the IT facility to be a key pillar for building Ethiopia’s digital economy, lift the startup ecosystem and accelerate the digital transformation of the country.

At the launching event, General Manager Adane proclaimed RedFox Solution Group’s goal “to be a pre-eminent data center provider” not only in Ethiopia but also at the regional level.

“Redfox builds its data centers in phases; our first modular data center, which is now operational, followed by our build-to-suite server farm, are both located at the ICT Park,” Adane said.

“The locations of our disaster recovery sites in Ethiopia and the next three additional modular data centers will be announced by the end of this fiscal year,” he added.

Apart from the RFETH-MDC01 that is now operational, RedFox offers four main products including Edge Presence, Cloud, Modular Data Center, and Build_to_suite.

The company has also specialized in offering off-premise customized infrastructure services, secure certified designs, and architectures for institutions that have compliance requirements for in-house requirements.

“With our current capacity that is live, and operational, our data center will enable our customers to demonstrate these audit and compliance-friendly state-of-the-art offerings,” its official said.

– What will this mean to the Ethiopian Tech and economic sectors? –

Ethiopia’s rapid growth as Africa’s fastest-growing economy has put it on the map, and investors are taking notice.

RedFox believes that Ethiopia is ripe for investment and is becoming a hotbed for the strongest presence in the data center industry.

Thus, the data center going live and operational enables more investors to tap into the data center industry, its officials say.

CTA Dagmawe Theodros says, “RedFox strongly believes companies must contribute to national and global net_zero and other sustainability initiatives.”

“Our corporate climate strategy is also aimed at making the company’s activities compatible with a net_zero emissions world in 2050, and will contribute at the right level to achieving this planetary sustainability objective in Ethiopia, on different lines of action,” he continued.

“And Ethiopia’s electricity grid being derived entirely from renewable energy makes the nation a prime destination for this initiative. And that is one of the main reasons we have decided to invest in Ethiopia.”

Empowering the country through comprehensive data center solutions, RedFox was founded by Ethiopian-Diaspora Professionals with multiple years of experience in the areas of Telecom and Information Technology.
