Ministry Assures Unilever of Govt’s Support

ADDIS ABABA – State Minister of Foreign Affairs Redwan Hussein on Tuesday met with the management of Unilever Manufacturing Plc to discuss the government’s support to the private sector.

The discussion between the two sides included the company’s activities in Ethiopia and the support they need from the Ethiopian government, said the Foreign ministry.

The company produces food, home, and personal care products in Ethiopia and employs more than 7,000 Ethiopians.

Unilever Africa President Jaime Aguilera said his company chose Ethiopia to be one of its priority destinations for investment.

He said the company exports goods it produces in Ethiopia and mainly utilizes domestic raw materials in the manufacturing process.

Ambassador Redwan called on the company to strengthen its investment in Ethiopia and not to be discouraged by temporary setbacks caused by Covid-19 and security issues.

The government is committed to supporting the private business sector as per the direction of the economic reforms in the country, said Redwan, adding that there will soon be a consultative forum for manufacturers and high-level government officials to deliberate challenges and prospects in doing business in Ethiopia.

The leaders of Unilever Manufacturing appreciated the encouraging efforts of the government to make the investment sector more attractive. The company has a long-term investment plan in Ethiopia, the company officials said.
