Fire department urges Caution during Easter Celebration
ADDIS ABABA – Officials are urging residents in Addis Ababa to remain vigilant and take precautions to prevent fire accidents from happening during the eastern holiday season.
During a press beefing today, head of the Addis Ababa Fire and Disaster Risk Management Commission, Solomon Fisseha strongly advised the public “to be really vigilant of risk factors” to fire accidents.
The Commissioner particularly urged for precaution when using Charcoal, candles, and electricity.
In the past nine months, the Commission reported at least 377 accidents of various types have occurred in the capital, claiming 104 lives and injuring 155 others. Firefighters were also able to save 55 residents from the disaster.
Solomon said 255 of the total incidents were fire accidents that left at least 13 people dead.
“Most of the incidents happened due to negligence,” Commissioner Solomon said, adding residents should be cautious and take precautions to prevent accidents from happening.
In case of emergency, residents have been urged to call 939.
