Ethiopia Logs 17 Covid Cases, One Death over the Weekend

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 17 more novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) infections and one related death over the weekend.

The latest infections, identified after testing about 8, 700 people in the past 48-hours, take the confirmed cases count to 469, 621, according to the ministry of health report.

The report says only one person has passed away due to the acute respiratory disease in the reported period.

The national Covid-19 death toll currently stands at 7,492.

As many as 3,915 patients have also recuperated from the acute respiratory disease in the country where about 435, 159 recoveries have been registered so far.

The recent significant increase in daily recoveries is easing the pressure on health facilities treating severely ill Covid-19 patients.

There are now 26, 968 confirmed active cases of Covid-19. Of which, only 11 of them are seriously sick, as per the Ministry of health latest report.

Health experts are still urging the public to be vigilant and follow the Covid protocols including wearing face masks.

The East African nation, however, has not administered a single dose of Covid-19 vaccine both on Saturday and Sunday as the nation’s vaccine drive stalls.

The first vaccine was given in Ethiopia on March 13, 2021.

To date, the nation has administered nearly 29.4 million shots of the Covid-19 vaccine. More than 24.5 million Ethiopians are also fully vaccinated against the virus, the Ministry reports.
