Ethiopia, South Sudan Discuss Border Security
ADDIS ABABA – House speaker of Ethiopian parliament, Tagesse Chaffo on Tuesday met with President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, in Juba to discuss border security between the two countries.
“The meeting centered on security issues in the regions bordering South Sudan and Ethiopia,” said the South Sudan President Office.
Issues pertaining to cattle rustling, child abduction, infrastructure development and border trade in the areas bordering South Sudan and Ethiopia were among the issues raised in the discussion, it added.
Tagesse went to South Sudan on Tuesday leading a high- level government delegation including Gambella region president Omod Ujulu, Benishangul region president Ashadli Hassan, and Director General for IGAD Countries at the Ministry of Foreign affairs Ambassador Feseha Shawel.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Tagesse said the two sides have exchanged information and discussed how to work closely for the common goods of the two Countries.
The two east African nations have also agreed to form a joint forum to discuss problems whenever they arise, he added.
