Ethiopia Records 2,140 More Covid Cases, 11 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 2, 140 new Covid-19 cases and 11 related deaths on Monday, reveals a ministry of health report.

The country tested 6, 176 people to confirm the latest positive infections in the last twenty-four hours.

The new cases registered has increased the active case tally 64, 828, the report says. At least 442 of them are severely sick and are now receiving medical treatments in hospitals.

Eleven more Covid-related fatalities and 1,490 recoveries have also been recorded in the reported period, bringing the death toll to 6, 969 and recoveries tally to 356, 997.

To date, the East African nation has managed to confirm 428, 796 cases after conducting close to 4.14 million tests.

The tally puts the second-populous African nation among the countries the continent hit hard by the acute respiratory disease.

Health officials are still urging the public to observe the health protocol in place to prevent themselves from the disease as they push ahead with their vaccine drive.

In the last 24-hours period, at least 11, 230 doses Covid-19 vaccine have been given to the public nationwide.

The figure has taken the number of doses administered in the country close to 10.5 million while nearly 9.36 people fully immunized.

The Ministry of Health started offering the Covid-19 vaccine in Ethiopia on March 13 – a week after it received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.
