Ambassador Hassen Taju wins Lifetime Achievement Award for Translation & Int’l Understanding

ADDIS ABABA – Ambassador of Ethiopia to Kuwait, Hassan Taju, has won the 2021 Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding in the ‘Lifetime Achievement’ category, said the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry.

Ambassador Hassen won the award in recognition of about 100 of his literary works and Arabic to Amharic translations.

The award was founded in 2015 in Doha, Qatar, and named after former Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Sani.

The award recognizes individuals and institutions that have excelled in promoting mutual understanding and communication between the Arabic world and people of various cultural backgrounds.

The competition is held annually in English and Chinese with four additional languages alternately.

This year, the competition includes Amharic, Dutch, Greek, and Urdu.

Ethiopian scholars, including Ambassador Hassen, have promoted Ethiopian literature and culture as sources of knowledge, making the Amharic language a part of the competition this year, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Nejashi Printing Press from Ethiopia is also among the seven scholars and two institutions that have won this year’s award in the “Category for Achievement”.
