Ethiopia Records 2, 992 New Covid Infections, Active Cases Exceed 24, 000
ADDIS ABABA — Ethiopia’s confirmed Covid-19 active cases total exceeds 24,000 after its ministry of health reported 2, 992 new infections on Wednesday.
The country identified the latest positive cases after testing nearly 11, 000 people in the past twenty-four hours, shows the ministry’s report.
Three more Covid-related fatalities and 136 recoveries have also been recorded in the reported period, bringing the death toll to 6,880 and recoveries tally to 351, 304.
There are now 140 severely sick Covid-19 patients nationwide, claims the report that puts the national confirmed active cases tally at 24,185.
Ethiopia, which confirmed its first case in March, 2020, has reported the highest Covid-19 caseload in the East Africa region.
Its cumulative case tally currently stands at 382, 371, according to the ministry of health.
Vaccination Push
Health officials are currently carrying out a nationwide vaccination drive while urging the public to observe the Covid protocols put in place including wearing face masks and social distancing.
In the last 24-hours, more than 11, 500 doses of Covid vaccine have been offered to the public nationwide, shows today’s Covid-19 report.
The figure has taken the total doses administered so far close to 10.7 million.
The East African nation, which started offering the Covid vaccine on March 13, 2021, has managed to fully immunize about 9.24 million of its citizens against the virus.
The campaign, which is involves a range of vaccines including Johnson & Johnson, AstaraZeneca and Sinopharm, aims to inoculate as many as 22 million people untill next end of next month.
