Ethiopia Logs 966 New Covid Cases

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 966 new cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday, the ministry of health says, as the vaccination campaign continued to gather pace.

About 5, 355 people have been tested for Coronavirus in the last twenty-four hours to confirm the latest infections, which took the confirmed total to 480, 450, says a ministry of health report.

The nation’s recovery total has also reached 457, 060, says the ministry, after adding 194 recoveries today. Currently, there are 15,871 confirmed active cases in the country. 33 of these patients are severely sick, the report claims.

It also says Zero Covid-induced fatality has been reported in the past 24-hours as the national Covid death toll remains at 7, 517.

Amid an increase in new infections, health officials are urging the public to get the Covid-19 vaccine shots to keep themselves and their loved ones safe as the nation steps up its immunization.

To date, the country has administered over 43.1 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. More than 2.45 million doses have been administered on Tuesday, health officials’ report shows.

It also says the number of fully vaccinated people has reached 35.4 million after two million people received their second vaccine shot today.

At least 1.6 million people who passed 6 months after vaccination have also taken a booster dose since the launch of the third round vaccine drive last Friday, said health minister Dr. Lia Tadesse. “I urge all 12 years and older, to take the vaccine to protect themselves and the community,” the minister added.
