Govt Rejects Push For Opening Aid Corridor Via Western Tigray

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian government has rejected a push by western countries and their institutions for the opening of a new aid corridor via western Tigray.

The move for the opening of a new corridor under the pretext of delivering aid to Tigray is unacceptable, said Mitku Kassa, Commissioner of the National Disaster Risk Management Commission (NDRMC).



The federal government, in close collaboration with the Afar regional state, has been delivering aid to the people of Tigray, the Commissioner said.

As of August 4, 2021 – 157 trucks of humanitarian assistance have reached Mekelle, according to government
“The trucks loaded with food and non-food assistance from WFP and UN agencies such as UNICEF, UNFPA and other international NGOs arrived in the city yesterday”, reports Ethiopia Current Issues Fact Check.
