Ethiopia Confirms 467 New Covid Cases, 4 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 467 more novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases and four related deaths on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health says.

A total of 6, 297 tests have been conducted in the past twenty-four hours to identify the new positive cases.

Additional four patients have also lost their lives due to the acute respiratory disease in the day, pushing the national death toll to 4, 395.



Currently, there are 283 severely ill Covid patients receiving medical treatment in hospitals, claims the Ministry’s report.

It also reveals the active case tally has exceeded the 13, 000 mark after the country registered more new cases than recoveries on the day.

At least 191 patients have recuperated from the respiratory disease on Tuesday, according to the ministry.

Ethiopia recorded its first Coronavirus infection on March 13, last year. Since then, it has conducted more than 3 million tests and confirmed over 281, 300 cases. About 263, 885 of these patients have already recovered, today’s report shows.

The country has offered more than 6, 600 Covid-19 vaccine doses in the 24-hours period as its health official continues to push ahead with the immunization campaign.

The East African country launched its vaccination campaign on March 13 – a week after the country received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.

To date, a total of 2, 227, 813 vaccine doses, mostly AstraZeneca, have been provided to the public, according to the ministry of Health.
