COVID-19: Ethiopia Reports 93 More Cases, 2 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 93 more novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) infections on Friday, taking the national confirmed cases tally to 177, 536, according to the Ministry of Health.

A total of 5, 787 people have been tested to identify the new cases in the past twenty-four hours.

A further two patients have died due to the acute respiratory disease on the same period, the ministry said in its daily Covid-19 report. The figure has pushed the national Covid-19 death toll to 4, 352.



Currently, 129 severely ill Covid-19 patients are receiving medical treatment in hospitals, claims the report that puts the active cases count in Ethiopia at 10, 945.

The active cases increased after the new case surpassed the recovery case in the day authorities reported only 31 recovery cases.

Ethiopia reported its first Coronavirus infection on March 13, last year. To date, it has confirmed over 177, 500 cases after testing close to 2.95 million people.

About 262, 237 of these patients have already recuperated, according to the report.

The report also shows that the country is pushing ahead with their immunization campaign after providing 20, 845 covid-19 vaccines on the day.

The figure has pushed the total number of doses provided in the country to more than 2.1 million.

Ethiopia launched its vaccination campaign on March 13 – a week after the country received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility. Since then, the country also obtained 500, 000 doses of Covid-19 Sinopharm vaccine from China and additional 400, 000 from COVAX.
