Ethiopia Reports 158 New Covid-19 Cases, 3 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 158 more novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) infections on Sunday, pushing the national confirmed tally to 275, 194, data from the ministry of health shows

The country identified the new positive cases after testing a total of 5, 338 people in the past 24-hours.

In the same period, three people have died due to the respiratory disease, pushing the number of people who lost their lives due to the virus to 4, 283, the Ministry’s Covid-19 report claims.

Currently, there are now 15, 961 confirmed active cases in the East African Nation. Of these infected people, 201 are severely sick and are getting medical treatments in Covid-19 centers, the ministry reported.

Health officials also reported the recovery of 652 people from the disease on Sunday. This figure has taken the recovery count in the country, so far, to nearly 255, 000.

Ethiopia has confirmed the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the East Africa region after testing more than 2.82mln people, which is also the biggest conducted among countries in the region.

Its health officials are still pushing ahead with their immunization campaign as part of their response to the pandemic.

On Sunday, the campaign saw the vaccination of 230 people, one of the lowest figures registered in recent weeks.

To date, a total of 1, 975, 957 people have been vaccinated since the start of the campaign on March 13, 2021, according to Sunday’s Covid-19 report.
