COVID-19: Ethiopia Confirms 1, 161 New Cases

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has reported a total of 1, 161 90 new Covid-19 infections and 5 related deaths on Wednesday, according to Ministry of Health.

Nearly 6  300 people have been tested for the coronavirus on the day to identify the new positive cases COVID-19 – a deadly respiratory illness caused by coronavirus.

The Ministry’s daily covid report claims additional 5 people have passed away due to the virus, pushing the national death toll so far to 2, 391. The country confirmed its first COVID-19 related death on April 15, 2020.

Hospitalization number has also increased by more than 30 as compared to the preceding day.

At least 398 patients are currently getting medical treatment in hospital beds after their conditions deteriorated, the Covid report shows. These patients are among 23, 138 confirmed active cases in the country.

Health officials have registered less recovery cases than infections in the day. About 364 people have recuperated after contracting the virus, as per the Ministry’s report for Wednesday.

To date, the East African nation – which confirmed its first coronavirus case on March 13 last year, has conducted 2, 152, 739 mln tests and confirmed 161, 974 infections. At least 136, 443 of them have already recovered, according to the Ministry.
