Ethiopia Reports 116 New Covid Cases, Vaccine Rate Picks up

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia on Tuesday recorded 116 new Covid-19 cases as the number of first vaccine doses given in the country started to pick up.

In a report on Tuesday evening, the health ministry said the new infections, identified from more than 5,200 tests conducted, took the confirmed Covid tally to 467,691.



Two more people also passed away due to complications related to the virus, it said. The national death toll now stands at 7, 428.

The nation currently has 51, 021 confirmed active cases. At least 147 of them are severely sick and are getting medical attention, the ministry reported.

It also said 171 patients of acute respiratory disease recuperated on the day, bringing the recovery tally to 409, 240.

Health officials are still urging the public to observe the Covid protocol put in place, including wearing face masks and getting vaccinated, to protect themselves and their families from the disease .

The Ministry has launched a second round vaccine drive at the national level on Monday, distributing more than 20 million doses of vaccine to the regions.



On Tuesday, the Ministry reported the number of people getting their first shots in the country grew by more than 148, 000 as compared to the previous day.

To date, Ethiopia has administered a total of 11,123,888 doses of Covid-19 vaccine

Nearly 9.5 million of its citizens have also been fully vaccinated, according to the ministry of health, which started offering the vaccine on March 13, last year.
