Ethiopia Reports Over 1000 Covid-19 New Cases, 14 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 1006 more coronavirus infections and 14 related deaths, its Ministry of Health reported on Saturday.

At least 6, 759 tests have been conducted in the day to identify the new positive cases of Coronavirus which causes the deadly respiratory disease, according to the ministry’s daily COVID-19 report.



Fourteen more people have also passed away due to covid-19 in the day, pushing the death toll so far to 2, 354.

Officials said up to 73% of the people who died in the country are residents of the city of Addis Ababa, the epicenter of the virus in Ethiopia. Health officials confirmed country’s first COVID-19 related death on April 15, 2020.

The number of hospitalizations has remained constant over the part few days.

Among nearly 21, 000 confirmed active cases in the country, at least 377 patients have been hospitalized after they become severely ill, the report says.

The report said only 175 patients have recovered on the day.

Ethiopia, which reported its first covid-19 case on March 13, 2020, has tested more than 2,1mln people and confirmed over 158, 000 infections. Nearly 135, 000 of these patients have already recovered.
