Ethiopia Records 190 New Coronavirus Cases, 4 Fatalities
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 190 new COVID-19 infections and four-related deaths on Wednesday, reports the Ministry of Health.
The Ministry confirmed the new positive cases after a total of 6, 826 tests conducted in the last twenty-four hours.
A further 4 Covid-related deaths and 117 recoveries have also been reported in the same period, pushing the national death toll to 6, 708 and recoveries number to 347, 686.
The country now has 229 severely sick Covid-19 patients getting medical treatment in hospitals, the daily Covid-19 report shows.
The patients are among 16, 316 confirmed active cases nationwide, the report adds.
Ethiopia confirmed its first Coronavirus infection in March, last year. Since then, it has identified over 370, 700 cases after conducting nearly 3.84 million tests.
– Vaccine Drive –
Despite the recent relative drop in cases, health officials are still urging the public to observe the Covid-19 protocols put in place such as wearing face masks.
Health authorities’ vaccine drive has also continued to reach more people with the newly launched two-week campaign targeting urban dwellers giving it a new impetus to their target to jab at least 22mln Ethiopians until Jan.
In the last 24-hours alone, at least 617, 700 doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been administered nationwide, data from the Ministry shows.
Ethiopia started offering the vaccine to its citizens on March 13, 2021. It has so far fully vaccinated nearly 5.5 million people against the virus while providing over 6.89 million doses nationally.
The ongoing campaign involves a range of vaccines including Johnson & Johnson, AstaraZeneca, Pfizer and Sinopharm.
