PM Abiy to Receive ANOCA Award on November

ADDIS ABEBA- Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Will receive the highest African sport recognition of “ANOCA order of merit,” in November, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said on Friday.

ANOCA is an association of 54 African nations which present its award for Heads of states and sovereign characters. It announced this year’s winner in August.

The association has given the ANOCA order of merit award to Abiy in recognition of his exemplary commitment in support Ethiopian Sports and service to the Olympic Movement.

The Association will present its award to the prime minister during its annual gathering to be held in Addis Abeba, said MoFA’s spokesperson Dina Mufti when speaking about Ethiopia’s preparation to host the ANOCA annual assembly.

During the weekly briefing, the spokesperson said the ongoing repatriation operation has so far brought at least 672 Ethiopians back to their home country.

These Ethiopians were stranded in various parts of Lebanon, Egypt, and Kuwait, said Dina.

The ministry has a plan to repatriate at least 4, 000 citizens just from Saudi Arabia alone as soon as possible, Dina said. The spokesperson said the government is in talks with other Middle Eastern nations to repatriate Ethiopians stranded in their territories.
