ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia on Wednesday reported 1, 533 additional novel coronavirus infections, and 16 more deaths.
Over the past twenty-four hours, the country tested over 18, 700 people for COVID-19, a respiratory illness caused by coronavirus, to identify the latest positive cases.
The ministry of health said total confirmed cases had risen to 45, 221 while deaths had increased to 725.
The country currently has 28, 183 active cases. Of these, 327 patients are in severe conditions, according to health officials.
The data from the ministry shows the umber of seriously ill patients who are in intensive care units have increased by 37 over the reported period.
Meanwhile, the ministry indicated 515 patients have recovered from the disease, taking the total number of recoveries to 16, 311.
Ethiopia has the largest number of COVID-19 cases in eastern Africa, after conducting more than 813, 000 tests.
