Ethiopia Gets New Attorney General, Ministers of Health & Revenue

ADDIS ABEBA – Ethiopian parliament has approved the nomination of four government officials on Friday.

The latest move to appoint the officials aims at filling up vacated top positions at various ministries.

Accordingly, Adanech Abiebie has been appointed as Attorney General, replacing Birhanu Tsegaye.

Tsegaye left his position following his recent appointment as an ambassador alongside 14 other officials.

Adaneche’s previous post at ministry of revenue has also been filled by Lake Ayalew – former acting governor of Amhara regional state.

The other appointee Dr. Lia Tadesse, who has been in charge of health sector in the country with a capacity of deputy minister for the past three months, appointed as minister of health.

The position has been vacant since Dr. Ahmed Amir left the position in December 2019 due to personal reasons.

Together with the other three officials, Filsen Abdulahi is also the other official that was approved as Minister of Women, Children and Youth on Wednesday.

Members of parliament approved their appointment with a majority vote and 21 against.

The House also approved the appointment of Tsegaye Arage as Commissioner of the Federal Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission with a majority vote, 11 against and six abstentions.
