TotalEnergies unveils Fast EV charging station in Addis

ADDIS ABABA – TotalEnergies Marketing Ethiopia began piloting a fast electric vehicle charging station in Addis Ababa.

The EV charging station was launched at its Bolé Road TotalEnergies Service Station late last week. It is the first fast EV charging public station in the country, TotalEnergies Marketing Ethiopia,

According to the multi-energy energy company, this pilot EV charging station is leveraging its experience in other African countries, aiming potential upscale.

Christophe Ferrand, the Managing Director of TotalEnergies Marketing Ethiopia, expects the EV fast charging to enhance electric mobility in the country.

“We finalized this new solution to contribute effectively to the decarbonization of transport with our partners,” he said, and deliver “energy that is more affordable, more reliable, cleaner and accessible to as many people as possible.”

“Access to charging infrastructures is one of the major concerns in the development of electric mobility,” he said, “This is precisely why we are pioneering investing in EV charging.”

The launch of the EV charging station was welcomed by the Ethiopian Petroleum and Energy Authority.

Director-General of the Authority Seharla Abdulahi also appreciated TotalEnergies’ commitment in the renewable energy arena and said the benefit of this fast EV Charging Station is significant in reducing air pollution.

The pilot is TotalEnergies’ plans to scale up its EV charging units on a case-by-case basis.

“This first step is a concrete example of our ambition to be a major player in the energy transition in the country,” its Vice President Mediterranean and Indian Ocean Olivier Van Parys stated.

TotalEnergies Marketing Ethiopia S.C. was established in 1950 as a petroleum product distribution company and developed its activities by acquiring the Mobil Oil East Africa assets in 2006.

Today, the company operates with more than 135 service stations and five depots across the country, of which four are aviation depots, and a Fuels depot at Dukem.
