FIFA U17 WWC Qualifiers: Ethiopia Beat South Africa to Set Up Kenya Tie

The Ethiopian Under 17 women’s national team beat their South African counterpart to progress to the third round of the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifications.

The national team went to South Africa with a three-goal advantage from their first-leg win at the Abebe Bikila Stadium last week.

Rawda Ali’s side came out of the return leg on Saturday unscathed with a match at Lucas Moripe Stadium ending with a goalless draw.

The result put Ethiopia on the way to the third round of the qualifiers with a 3-0 aggregate win.

It also gave a good start for Rawda who was only appointed as the U-17 women’s national team coach about a month ago.

Next, Ethiopia will now face Kenya who managed to advance to the third round after their opponents – DR Congo – withdrew from the competition.

The best three teams that win after the fourth round will qualify to represent Africa at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to take place in the Dominican Republic.
