Ethiopia to Play Chad in Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Qualifiers

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has been drawn against Chad in the first round of the African Women’s Olympic qualifying tournament.

The Confederation of African Football or CAF on Tuesday conducted the draw for the four round tournament that will see 25 teams battle it out for the two Paris 2024 quotas.

The tournament will begin with a first round involving 18 nations. The nine winners will advance to round two where they will be joined by the seven highest-ranked teams at the last Women’s African Cup of Nations.

Accordingly, Ethiopia will play Chad in the two-legged first-round matches scheduled for July 10-18, 2023.

The winner of the two-legged match will play Nigeria in the second round of the tournament which will be played between October 23-31.

The winners of each of these ties will join the seven highest-ranked teams: South Africa, Morocco, Zambia, Nigeria, Cameroon, Tunisia and Botswana.

The eight winners progress to the third round, which will be followed by the fourth round where the teams will be whittled to four. Winners of the fourth round will qualify for the final tournament.

Third round of matches are scheduled for February 19-28 February 2024 while the final round will be staged between April 1-9 2024, according to Caf.

The Paris 2024 football tournament will take place between 24 July and 10 August 2024.
