Car Crash Leaves Six Wedding-goers Dead in Harari Region

ADDIS ABABA – A car crash in Harari region has left six people dead and eight others injured, the region’s Police Commission said on Monday.

The horrific accident involving an Isuzu Truck licensed with 3-88036 (Oro) plate number occurred on Sunday evening at the Sofi district of the region.

The truck was travelling from Aweday to Jigjiga at speed when the driver lost control and crashed at Kille kebele,

Six people including five women pronounced dead at the scene. Eight others who were also injured due to the accident have been taken to Hiwot Fana Hospital for treatment.

The victims between 20 and 23 years of age were returning from a wedding ceremony, according to the Police report.

The driver who was suspected of driving beyond the legal speed limit disappeared from the scene of the accident.

Police are on manhunt to capture the driver, reports the Harari police commission that launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fatal crash.

This is the second deadly car crash that happened in the month of May.

Ten days ago, another tragic traffic accident claimed the lives of 19 people, majority of them lecturers at Madda Walabu University.
