Italy’s PM Meloni to Make Two-day visit to Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA – Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will make a two-day official visit to Ethiopia later this week.

Italy is one of Ethiopia’s main development partners. The two countries recently signed a cooperation framework agreement involving €180 million in the form of grants and soft loans.

The agreement was signed following discussions between Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and his Italian counterpart Georgia on February 6 in Rome.

Italy’s first female PM Giorgia will now make a similar visit to Addis Ababa from April 14 to 15.

Giorgia is expected to meet with high-level Government officials from Ethiopia as well as the African Union in Addis Ababa.

The visit is aimed at deepening the partnership between the two countries, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).

“Strengthening humanitarian and development assistance support to Ethiopia will be at the top of the agenda,” MoFA said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Ideas will also be exchanged on regional, continental, and global issues of common concern,” read the statement.
