Berisso replaces Roba Megersa as the chief of the ESL

Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Gets New Leadership

ADDIS ABABA – Dr. Beriso Amelo has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the state-owned logistics giant Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics (ESL).

The appointment makes Beriso only the third CEO of the logistics firm which was formed in 2011 following a merger of four state-owned enterprises – Ethiopian Shipping Lines, Ethiopian Maritime and Transit Service, Dry Port, and Comet Transport.

His appointment has been effective from March 30, 2023, said the ESL in a welcoming message to the new leadership at the sole cross-continent vessel operator in Africa.

Beriso replaced Roba Megersa who served as the head of the public enterprise for nearly six years after taking over the helm from the founding CEO Ahmed Tusa in May 2017.

The company appreciated the outgoing CEO Roba Megersa for his “leadership and commitment to the ESL (which) have been exemplary”.

Under his leadership, ESL, formerly known as Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Services Enterprise (ESLSE), expanded the capacity of the business entity even at the height of COVID 19 which paralyzed the sector globally.

The logistics firm managed to attain 19.5 billion Birr in revenue and 2.2 billion Birr in gross profit during the first six months of the current 2022/23 Ethiopian fiscal year.
