Afar’s Berahle Town Regains Electric Service after two years
ADDIS ABABA – Power has been restored to residents of Berahle town and its surrounding after maintenance work to electric infrastructures destroyed by the conflict in northern Ethiopia, a state-owned utility firm says.
The town in Afar regional state was cut off from the national electric grid for more than two years.
On Thursday, the Ethiopian Electric Utility (EEU) said the electric service has now resumed after restoration works to high and low voltage transmission lines and transformers were completed.
The restoration work is part of a major effort to reconnect areas of Afar, Amhara, and Tigray regions that were cut off due to the conflict.
The efforts are still ongoing to restore electric power in other towns in the region, said Yasin Ali, chief of electric utility in the region.
