Fire Accidents Destroy Properties worth 90mln Birr in Addis
ADDIS ABABA – Three fire accidents that occurred in the capital in the past week destroyed more than 90 million birr worth of properties, according to the city’s Fire and Disaster Risk Management Commission.
The accidents occurred in Shola Market, Akaki, and Yosef areas of the city.
The Commission deployed at least 900 firefighters and 70 emergency rescue trucks to contain the fire accidents before they got out of control.
The officials of the commission are now urging the city residents to take precautions during the upcoming Ethiopian Christmas and epiphany holidays.
Increased consumption of charcoal, candles, and electricity during holiday seasons is often seen as the major factor for accidents.
While the firefighters are ready to serve for 24 hours, Deputy Commissioner Fisiha Garedew said the public should also be vigilant of the risk factors to prevent accidents from happening.
In case of emergency, residents are urged to call 939 or 0111555300 for either emergency or ambulance services.
