President Biden Nominates New US Ambassador to Ethiopia
ADDIS ABABA – President Joe Biden has nominated Ervin Jose Massinga, a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service, to be U.S. ambassador to Ethiopia, the White House said on Tuesday.
If approved by the senate, Massinga will fill the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the US to Ethiopia left vacant for nearly a year.
The previous US Ambassador of Ethiopia Geeta left the job in Feb 2022 after serving for less than a year.
Massinga, a Foreign Service Minister Counselor, is currently the State Department’s Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of African Affairs.
He has previously served as the Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, as well as Deputy Chief of Mission in Khartoum, Sudan, and in Conakry, Guinea.
