Senior Govt Officials visit Mekelle

ADDIS ABABA – Senior Federal Government officials have left for Mekelle to oversee the implementation of major issues in the peace agreement as per the set plan.

This is the first time in two years a high-level Federal Government delegation is heading to Mekele in two years.

Tagesse Chafo is leading the delegation involving a dozen of ministers and state ministers as well as Members of the National Dialogue Commission

“This gesture is an attestation to the peace agreement getting on the right track and progressing,” the government communication service says.

The officials’ visit comes a day after senior federal government officials reviewed the progress of the implementation of the peace agreement in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

“Following Nairobi II, we met today to review the progress of the Peace Agreement. The implementation is hopeful,” the Prime Minister said in a tweet after the meeting.

Abiy reiterated that the Government of Ethiopia “remains steadfast in its commitment to the peace process.”
