Ethiopia, South Sudan to Step up Cooperation in Education Sector

ADDIS ABABA – Education Minister Prof. Berhanu Nega on Wednesday held talks with South Sudan’s Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Gabriel Changson Chang.

Prof Birhanu said Ethiopia is broadening and committed to strengthening the joint collective educational cooperation with its neighbors.

He also expressed his country’s desire to add value to the long-established cooperation with the sisterly nation of South Sudan.

During the discussion, the two ministers identified areas to broaden cooperation and Ethiopia’s support in human resource development.

The support involves scholarships, research and laboratories, and capacity building for South Sudanese teachers and health sector professionals.

Gabriel said the overall support of Ethiopia to South Sudan including education is commendable.

Eventually, the two ministers signed an MOU on educational cooperation.

The two sides agreed to form a technical committee to follow up on the implementations.
