Ethiopia Logs 134 More Covid Cases, 2 Fatalities

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has logged 134 fresh Covid-19 cases and two related fatalities in the last twenty-four hours, reveals a ministry of health report.

The latest infections, the report issued on Friday evening says, have taken the national confirmed tally to 491, 642. 

At least 468, 629 of the patients have already recuperated from the respiratory illness caused by Coronavirus, says the ministry, after adding 208 recoveries today.

Two Coronavirus-related fatalities have also been confirmed in the reported period. The national death toll currently stands at 7,566. 

There are now at least 40 severely sick patients getting medical treatments in hospitals, according to the latest report

The severely ill Covid-19 patients are among 15, 321 confirmed active cases in the country.

The public is being urged to be vigilant as well as get themselves vaccinated against the Coronavirus to keep themselves safe.  

Ethiopia started offering Covid vaccine shots to its citizens in March 2021. To date, the country has administered close to 52.5 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. 

Over 43 million people have also received at least two doses of the vaccine against the coronavirus. Health authorities in the country plan to increase the national COVID-19 vaccination coverage to 60% by the end of 2023.
