ADDIS ABABA – Twenty-seven Ethiopians have died as result of health complications linked to the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) on Thursday, the ministry of health reports.
The figure equals a single day death toll the country recorded on May 12, 2021. The national death toll has now gone up to 4,857.
In its daily report, the ministry has also confirmed 1, 252 new Covid-19 cases after testing 7,758 in the past twenty-four hours.
The severe case count has continued to increase with 30 more patients needing medical attention as compared to the previous day.
There are now 756 severe cases, claims the report, putting the active case tally at 28, 447.
It also says 763 patients have recuperated in the last 24-hours, pushing the recovery count at 287, 147.
The East African nation has so far conducted over 3.3 million tests to confirm a total of 320,452 infections.
As part of its effort to tackle the pandemic, the country is carrying out a national immunization campaign.
On Thursday, over 71, 000 people have been inoculated against the Covid-19, says the ministry.
The government of Ethiopia began offering vaccines to its citizens on March 13, 2021. To date, nearly 2.73 million vaccines have been administered to the public.
