Ethiopia Records Seven Covid-related Fatalities  

ADDIS ABABA – At least seven Covid patients have passed away in the last twenty-four hours in Ethiopia, a ministry of health report claims.

Today’s fatalities number – one of the highest the country recorded in a day in the past five months – has pushed the national covid related death toll at  7,559

At least 42 severely sick patients are also getting treatment in hospitals across the nation, says the report published on Wednesday evening.

More recoveries than new cases

The nation has logged 138 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing the confirmed total to 490,695.

About  467,948 of the patients have already recuperated from the respiratory disease, says the ministry, adding 166 new recoveries today.

Currently, there are 15,193 confirmed active cases of Covid-19 in Ethiopia.  

The Ministry of Health is still advising the public to remain vigilant and follow protocols including wearing face masks when in gatherings.

It is also urging the public to take vaccine shots from nearby health centers. After a pause for a day, health officials have administered more than 13, 600 doses of the covid vaccine today. 

Ethiopia has offered 52.25 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to the public since its vaccination campaign started on March 13, 2021.

More than 42.8 million Ethiopians have also been fully immunized against the coronavirus.
