Ethiopians Repatriated from Saudi Arabia Exceed 50,000   

ADDIS ABABA –  The number of Ethiopians repatriated from Saudi Arabia has surpassed the 50,000 mark after over a thousand additional citizens arrived on Wednesday.

Authorities launched the ongoing repatriation push almost three and half months ago to bring Ethiopians living under difficult conditions in the Gulf nation.

To date, 50,337 citizens have returned back to their home country, the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs, following the arrival of three planes with 1,018 migrants onboard today.

Out of the total returnees, 9, 225 are women and 3,628 children under the age of 18.

Various supports have been extended to the repatriates including reuniting them with their families in collaboration with regional governments, officials said

The repatriation operation has been underway since the end of March 2022. As per the official plan, the operation will go ahead for the next seven months and achieve the initial target to bring back 102,000 citizens who are detained under harsh conditions in Saudi Arabia for illegal entry
