ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 161 more recoveries from Covid-19 and one related fatality today, a ministry of health report for Monday reveals.

Close to 2500 people have been tested in the past twenty-four hours to identify the latest positive cases, which brought the nation’s confirmed total to 489,502.

About 396 patients have also recovered from the disease in the reported period, says the report that puts the recovery total, to date, at 464,598.

There are now 17,360 confirmed active cases in the country. At least 54 of them are severely sick and are receiving treatment at health facilities, the report notes.

It also confirms the death of one patient due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking Covid-related death toll to 7,542.

The public is still being advised to be vigilant about the virus while health officials urge 12-year-olds and above to get the Covid vaccine shot.

However, only 5,109 doses of the Covid vaccine have been offered to the public on Monday, today’s update shows.

Ethiopia started offering vaccine shots to its citizens in March 2021. Since then, it has administered close to 52.2 million vaccine shots.

At least 42.7 million of its citizens have also been fully vaccinated against the virus, reports the ministry whose officials plan to reach 60% COVID-19 vaccination coverage by the end of 2023.
